Jun 26,09  CHIEFS SIGN KELOWNA MINOR HOCKEY PRODUCT
The Chase Chiefs are proud to announce the signing of Marc Mackenzie, a 1993-born forward form Kelowna, BC. The Chiefs are excited to add another piece for the upcoming season.
"As a 16 year this coming season, we are expecting Marc to be a very important part of our forward core," commented Chiefs GM/Coach Tyler Boldt. "I have seen him play on a number of occasions this spring and two things that stand out are work ethic and consistency. These two tools should make him a very effective junior hockey player."
Mackenzie joins Kory Movold of Prince Rupert and David Harrison of Salmon Arm as new Chiefs signed for the upcoming season.

Jun 10,09  ASSISTANT COACH VAN DIEMEN MOVES UP TO BCHL
The Chiefs are proud to announce that 08/09 assistant coach Chad Van Diemen has been hired as assistant coach for the Powell River Paper Kings of the BCHL. The following is an exerpt from a news release found on www.bchl.bc.ca.

The Powell River Kings Junior ‘A’ Hockey Club is pleased to announce a key addition to their coaching staff. Chad Van Diemen joins Kent Lewis and Shane Luckinchuk behind the Kings bench for the 2009-10 season.

Van Diemen spent last season as an assistant coach with the Chase Chiefs of the KIJHL and also has time behind the bench with the Thompson Blazers of the B.C. Major Midget League.

The native of Kamloops began his BCHL playing career with the Nanaimo Clippers coached by none other than Kent Lewis. The defenceman then moved onto the Powell River Kings before finishing up his junior career with the Quesnel Millionaires. Chad earned a Division I scholarship to Iona College in New York before moving onto Manhattanville College earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree.

“I’m very excited to come to Powell River and join a program that is going in the right direction,” said Van Diemen. “Kent and Shane have done great things with the Kings the last couple seasons and I hope I can add to the continued success in Powell River.”

Chase is excited to see Chad become the first Chiefs coach to graduate to a higher level of competition. The organization wishes Chad the best of luck and ongoing success.
"Chad was an integral part of our staff this past season," commented coach and general manager Tyler Boldt. "He was extremely well liked by the players and was very knowledgable of the game and its processes. It will be exciting to see where Chad ends up in the next few years."

Mar 23,09  ABOUT US...
The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League is a Junior “B” level league that operates fifteen teams in the central and southeast corner of British Columbia and one team in Washington State. It is a developmental league for players wishing to improve their skills and advance to a higher level.

In the spring of 2006, the KIJHL awarded a franchise to the Village of Chase, a community of roughly 3,000 people. The ownership brought the team to town with the aim of building future successes off a foundation of honesty, commitment and unselfish contributions to team success. They also set out with the goal of having the players who play for the Chiefs recognized by teams at higher levels for their strong play and their commitment to skill development, leadership and competitiveness.

The successes of our alumni in our short existence are proof that we are meeting the goals we have set for ourselves. Seven members of the 2007/08 Chiefs team played Junior “A” hockey this season – more than any other team in the KIJHL. With the recent completion of our second season, we believe (due to interest shown by scouts) that at least seven players from our roster of this past season will be playing Junior “A” or better next season.

Further to this, in December of last year, Vernon Minor Hockey product Sawyer MICK, a player scouted by, signed by and who started the season with the Chiefs, was picked up from our roster by the Portland Winter Hawks of the W.H.L. Inasmuch as our team lost an excellent player, we recognize once again that our purpose is the development of young hockey players to enable them to progress to a higher level – we take great pride in the fact that Sawyer was a part of our organization.

During the season, our “out-of-town” players (five players from our community played on the team last season) are billeted within the Village of Chase. Our practice and game schedule is such that it promotes a school age player’s development in hockey while allowing him to easily maintain a senior high school routine. Practices are held early evenings Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and games predominantly on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (the road schedule was such that our players missed parts of only four days of school all last season). We emphasize the importance of a player’s education and recognize the work of our player’s in school. The past two seasons, the two players awarded the Scholastic Achievement Trophy maintained an average in excess of 90% in Grade 12 subjects.

First class passenger buses and top level accommodation are utilized for our road trips. We emphasize that nutrition plays a huge role in the life of an athlete and in life in general, therefore any meals on the road are full course meals at respectable restaurants.

We endeavour to provide an exciting atmosphere for our fans, an environment that players love to play in and fans enjoy being in because they are encouraged to be a part of it. We have had 120 season ticket holders in each of our first two seasons. The addition of the hockey club to the community has definitely enhanced the lifestyle.

Our arena is a comfortable little facility that seats 350 of the most enthusiastic fans you can find (with probably another 100+ fans standing). The dressing room that was added to the facility for the Chiefs Hockey Club is first class.

Our coaching staff is made up of young but very experienced former junior hockey players. They have "been there", they know what it takes to develop a hockey player and what it takes to make a team a winner. We have a chiropractor on staff as well as several very dedicated volunteers to look after the players well-being and equipment needs. We also have a group of dedicated volunteers who ensure that billeting, roadtrip snacks and other facets of our organization are more than taken care of. Our home games are video broadcast on the league website and are regarded as the best in the league (the local radio station began broadcasting the home games this season also).

There is a misconception that teams have their players picked prior to the start of training camps. This is absolutely not the case with the Chiefs. Our office received a call from an out-of-town player last summer who expressed an interest in coming to our camp but wanted assurances that his time would not be wasted because the team was already cast in stone. He was advised that at our training camp, we have twenty three roster spots open and one is there for him if he shows us he has what it takes. This young gentleman attended our camp, made the team, had a very successful year and will likely move up to Junior “A” next year as a result.

If you have what it takes, we have a roster spot open for you. If you have any questions, we encourage you to call our office or send us an e-mail, we would like to hear from you! Thanks for taking the time to read about our program.
